Slate is a very fine-grained metamorphic rock derived from sedimentary rocks. Slate is mainly composed of mica, chlorite, and quartz. Shale is affected by heat and pressure, and fine particles are "melted" together to form shale.
The characteristic of slate is the sub parallel direction, which endows the rock with strong parallel splitting, thereby causing the slate to split into thin and tough slate.
The slate has a fine to medium grain surface texture and excellent luminescent properties.
